Year 5
10.02.23 Snow Day
Good morning Year 5. I hope you all have a lot of fun in the snow today! I have included a few activities that you can complete if you would like to. This work is optional. If you complete any of the work I would love to see it so please bring it in on Monday.
Here are some fun, outdoor and indoor activities you can complete today in the snow:
- Dress up in warm clothes
- Go sledging – a tray works if you haven’t got a sledge!
- Snowmen are old school. Make a snow-something – an animal or have a go at making one of the Year 5 staff!
- Make a snow angel
- Make hot chocolate with loads of marshmallows on top
- Snow day bingo!
Maths: There are two worksheets all about comparing decimals. You have been doing a fabulous job with this in class so I know you will be fantastic! The answers are on the sheets so you (or your parents) can check your answers.
Writing: Use the story opener below and try to finish the story. Try to have your girl land in a wintery place to fit our snow day. Try to include a which relative clause, an -ing sentence starter, an expanded noun phrase and a simile sentence starter.
Cautiously, the girl approached the dilapidated hut in the middle of the wild forest. She pressed her ear against the rotting, wooden door and heard the most unusual sound. As she opened the door, she felt a tugging in her belly button. Woosh! For a few moments, she could see nothing but darkness. When she opened her eyes, she realised she was in another world...
Science: Miss Hindle needs to build a new sledge. Which materials should she use to build the sledge? Think about the work we did on friction on Wednesday. Miss Hindle wants the sledge to go really fast. Draw a picture of you sledge. Label the materials you will use. Tell me why you have used those materials. Don't forget that Miss Hindle will need to be able to stop too! She wants to take her cat, Ronald, with her so make sure it has a cat seat!
Have fun!
