Implementation
At St. Stephen’s, we have recently begun using the ‘Language Angels’ scheme of learning across all Key Stage 2 classes. Through a modular approach, the programmes of study we have selected will cover the National Curriculum Attainment Targets for languages:
- Speaking and Listening: the development of students' ability to engage in conversations, express opinions, ask/answer questions and develop accurate pronunciation.
- Reading and Writing: the development of students' ability to understand short, simple texts and write short, adapted texts from memory.
- Grammar: the development of students' ability to understand basic structures, including gender (masculine/feminine) and plurals.
Using the ‘Language Angels’ scheme of learning, teachers in Keys Stage 2 will follow and deliver modules of teaching and learning which will fall under the following categories:
Year 3: Early Language Teaching
Year 4: Early Language and Intermediate Teaching
Year 5: Intermediate Teaching
Year 6: Intermediate and Progressive Teaching
Each module will be individually assessed using the objectives for each year group in relation to ARE. Each unit contains summative assessment tasks which will be used in conjunction with teacher assessment to judge overall pupil attainment, both for the module and for the year as a whole.
