Reading and Phonics

At St. Stephen's we teach reading using phonetically decodable reading books. In guided reading we use the Big Cats scheme.

We teach daily phonics sessions based on the Red Rose phonics scheme. Children's reading books will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays. Regular reading and discussion about what they are reading is really important. Reading to your child and talking to them about stories and books is also extremely beneficial.

Please feel free to comment in their reading records as it is an ideal way of communicating with school.
