Meet the Year 6 Team
Mr Pye (Class Teacher)
Mrs Roscoe (PPA Teacher)
Mrs Townend (Teaching Assistant)
Here they are - The Class of 2017/2018 or should we say "leavers". They are a little over 6 weeks away from flying the nest and moving up to their secondary schools. Here is a picture of them at Turf Moor.
And another picture on World Book Day...

Talking of our trip to Turf Moor, here are some pictures of the day itself. Mr Smart and Mr Eti were fantastic. We spent time playing football in the E.T.C (The Elite Training Centre) and then designed our own Burnley strips. After lunch we had a tour of the whole stadium (complete with a quiz). We went into the dugout, the posh boxes and the media room. The whole day was fantastic.
The children worked especially hard during SATs week and we are sure they did themselves (and us) proud when it came to their results. Mrs Cornwell, Mr Pye, Mrs Townend and all the other adults who supported us throughout the week (special mention to Mrs Layfield for her help in our breakfast club) were impressed with their resilience and positive attitude.
As is tradition, we stood on the desks and cheered once all the papers had been sent away and the tests had ended.
In Year 6, we pride ourselves not only on being fantastic writers, but also healthy heroes as well. We decided to combine the two by designing and making smoothies as part of our D&T topic and then writing about then in our own hybrid leaflet. This leaflet contained persuasion, instruction and explanation texts about the ideal boost for your body which is filled with nutrients and vitamins. It was a fantastic unit.
Our non-Christian faith unit has been about Judaism. We studied the Book of Exodus carefully and learnt all about the story of Moses and what the Passover is all about. For Jews today, The Passover Seder is really important and all the different foods symbolise crucial aspects of the story. Our fantastic display about The Seder Plate itself involved looking at all the different foods. We even had our own Seder meal where all the class took part in the Haggadah (the script that is read out) and sampled everything. It was brilliant and the children's questions and answers were really thoughtful.
Before Christmas, our English unit took us to Hogwarts. Fortunately for Mr Pye, he had a class of children who loved studying the whole "Potterverse". Year 6 produced some fantastic writing where we imagined that we were on The Hogwarts Express journeying to Hogwarts to the first time.
Our R.E "Let's Worship" area and associated work is looking wonderful. We have had some fabulous Collective Worship Assemblies prepared by a variety of children in the class and took part in fascinating Advent work when preparing for Christmas.
Our Team Captains are doing a fabulous job. Well done to Ebony and Tyler, who led Thompson to victory in the team point competition during the Christmas term.
