What an amazing year so far! We are ready for a busy and exciting summer term in year one. Watch this space for updates about our Great Outdoors topic as the children are currently very busy deciding what we are going to be learning....
This is the long term plan of what your child will be learning in Year 1.
Reading and Phonics
At St. Stephen's we teach reading using the Oxford Reading scheme and Phonics Bug. In guided reading we use the Big Cats scheme.
We teach daily phonics sessions based on the Letters and Sound scheme. Children will bring their reading book and record home every night. Regular reading and discussion about what they are reading is really important. Reading to your child and talking to them about stories and books is also extremely beneficial.
Please feel free to comment in their reading records as it is an ideal way of communicating with school.
